Active Cases Pending in the 16 County Criminal Courts at Law represent open cases currently under the jurisdiction of the courts and for which the defendant in the case is either on bond or in-custody. In Harris County, misdemeanants who are in-custody generally represent less than 5% of the overall misdemeanor caseload. Examples of reasons people may be in-custody while charged with a misdemeanor, are;

• a concurrent felony or federal criminal charge,
• an Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) hold,
• a statutorily required hold for fugitives charged with crimes outside of Harris County or the State of Texas,
• and certain misdemeanors such as violent crimes
